From a Type I Diabetic
Hi all;

Recently discovered in a grocery store in Western New York, this is my new favorite baking item. It doesn't raise my blood sugar when I make pancakes!!! The taste is absolutely amazing...seriously!

I also ordered a bunch of other Pamela's products as well, and they are all incredible. I can't believe I've finally found something that is not only healthy and gluten free, but also tastes good and doesn't make my blood sugar go crazy.

I've used this before
I turned to the internet when I couldn't find my flour substitute in my grocery store. Low & behold it was on Amazon. It arrived promptly and at a price less than in the store!

Customer Reviews :
Tainted Product?
I've been using Pamela's products with great success, ordering a case of the bread mix from the Amazon online Pamela's Products Wheat-Free & Gluten-Free Bread Mix, 19-Ounce Packages (Pack of 6) grocery every month. But in November, the bread started to have a very strange chemical after taste and also gave both my husband and myself serious digestive upset. I made a few more loaves to see if it was just one bag of the mix, but no, it seems to be a recurring problem. We also purchased a bag of Pamela's GF white cake mix from the grocery store recently and it had the same noxious taste and smell. What's up? I have three cases of the bread mix that I plan to return to Amazon for a refund.

While I haven't met a pure maple syrup that I didn't like, this is a great syrup for the price - especially being organic!

"Best syrup I've ever tasted" from a Canadian
The quote in the title of this review was from my boyfriend, who grew up in Canada and was convinced that America didn't have "real maple syrup." Determined to get better tasting stuff over the generic grade A syrup our grocery store had, I decided to try this Grade B Coombs Family Farms stuff based on the reviews. They weren't kidding, folks! It DOES taste better. The first few times we had breakfast with this, my bf exclaimed "This syrup is so good!" like he couldn't believe it. He still says it occasionally. Safe to say, this has earned its place as a staple pantry item in our household; with the subscribe and save, it's a pretty good deal.
Rating :

Yummm! REAL MAPLE SYRUP
This is the good stuff! No comparison to corn syrup based pancake syrup. I bought the darker "B" grade for its stronger flavor.
Rating :

Good Value, Moderate Taste
Having grown up in sugar maple country and bought syrup from the farmers in unmarked gallon cans ('store syrup' never entered our house), I have plenty of experience with maple syrup. [Tip: maple trees and maple syrup are 'organic' by definition. Farmers who tap trees add nothing. Don't pay more for 'organic'.] At our house we 'sugared off' every Winter. For those who know what I'm talking about, read on. For those who don't have any idea, you may be happy with this product.

The Good: This syrup is priced right (purchased at $17.31). It is a good buy and you should not be shy at purchasing. It's really about a 3 star minus or 2.5 stars.

The Not So Good: Grade B syrup is normally 'mapley' with caramel notes. This syrup LACKS the strong maple flavors that make it suitable for cooking or a good match for those who like strong flavors, but it does NOT have the complexity or finesse of a Grade A Amber. In short it is rather bland and pedestrian for maple syrup. What we don't know is whether the trees tapped for this label vary from year to year but this batch is uninteresting. I bought it as an alternative to Whole Foods label (about $20) but quite frankly the Whole Foods Grade A Amber has a stronger maple flavor with more complexity and the Whole Foods Grade B is significantly stronger in flavor. I would rate the Whole Foods Grade A Amber as a 4 star minus, and the Grade B as 4-5 stars.

1400 Calories of Tasty Zero Calorie Artificial Sweetener
Splenda No Calorie Sweetener, Granulated, in packets.

I like the taste, after taste and texture of this product. I love sweets, but I am working on losing weight. I exercise every day, but that is not enough. I had been adding a lot of granulated Splenda (and the granulated generic sucralose sweetener) to my diet drinks, fruit, juice and almost everything. It says zero calories, so a big time sugar junkie like me should be able to eat just as much or more than the amount of sugar that I would have eaten and still lose weight. But it was no calories, so I used even more. Suddenly my whole world was sweet.

But I was gaining weight and it didn't add up. I looked up sucralose and went to the Splenda web site. There it explained that legally, if a serving has less than 5 calories then they are entitled to call it zero calories. But the vendor decides how much is in a serving. If you make the serving size small enough, any food can be labeled zero calorie (that's an industry serving regulation if I ever heard of one). Splenda says the serving size is 1 teaspoon and as long as it has less than 5 calories they can call it zero calories. Sucralose by itself really does have nearly zero calories in any amount I would use. But I was still gaining weight.

So I looked again. The numbers just were not adding up. What else is in there? It sure isn't pure sucralose or there would be a lot less product in the bag. Well, the filler is malto dextrin. This is a safe well known sugar that has been in food products for decades. It has calories, but not as much as table sugar. It's about 1/8 of the calories of regular table sugar. That is a significant reduction. But it is not zero. If you consume this entire box you will consume about 1400 calories.

Ch-ch-ch CHIA!
These are much better quality than the cheaper seeds I bought on another site. Originally, I had them on a six month subscription (a pound twice a year) but I've changed it to monthly.

I love chia seeds!
Chia seeds are an amazing nutritional powerhouse - and to me, they don't even really taste like anything (which is a positive; no funky taste here)! They are great sprinkled on salads, added to a smoothie, used to make raw vegan pudding, etc. Its uses are many!

Also - I wanted to add that this is a really good price. My co-op charges almost $20/lb. for chia seeds, and Amazon has them for just over $13!

Cha Cha Cha Chia!~
I got this here last week, its yummy.
I soak some in juice overnight and put it in smoothies
or mix it with yogurt.
Rating :

Great, but eat fast!
These seeds are perfect for tossing into yogurt or smoothie. But you must consume quickly. The seeds draw moisture quickly causing them to swell. You will be picking them from your teeth for days if you do not drink with a staw. I have taken them straight from a spoon and washed them down with a glass of water before my "light" lunch and they really do give a feeling of fullness. Do to a severe sensitivity to caffeine and any sort of stimulus, I wanted to try something natural that would not raise my pulse, quicken my MVP heart and just not make me overall jittery. These do the trick. When I drink a meal replacement drink, I still feel hollow inside and want to snack. By adding a full, rounded table spoon of seeds after a few minutes, I feel nice and full. These can be tossed into a powdered drink, a canned ready to go drink (milkshake type) and even into a vitamin water. But believe me when I say, you must consume quickly or you will need a spoon, they turn into a jello consistency quick....which actually is not bad either. You can bulk up a 100 calorie pudding snack by stirring in a teaspoon or so. Many ways to get creative with the Chia seeds. Enjoy!

Questions & Answers
Question : How does your choice of grocery bags make a difference to the environment?
I bag groceries as a job and everyday, I see how wasteful people can be when they ask us to double bag plastic, or to bag their groceries in paper and hang them in plastic. Many of them don't realize how harmful to the environment this can be. Especially using plastic bags. Around here, you cant recycle palstic bags because they jam the recycling machines and we get shipments where entire crates of plastic bags have holes in them and we have to throw them away. I try to encourage customers to use paper as it is re-usuable, can hold more, easier on the environment, etc etc. Next week it is earth week and the store is giving out canvas bags that customers can bring back everytime they shop. Do you ever wonder how your choice of bags can make a difference? What do you think about this? Are there any other suggestions you have on how to help the environment when it comes to grocery bags?im not saying that double bagging is bad... just the customers that request EVERY bag to be doubled even if it isnt heavy. or asking for multiple bags when there isnt the need for them. And plastic bags are handy to use for waste bins and to be reused but sadly, not many people here do reuse them. they just put them in the trash
Answer:
i really think this is important because in such a small way it can affect our environment. in the philippines, used plastic bags take up the majority of the waste generated and plastic is non-biodegradable. in our family we reuse old plastic bags we get from supermarkets as packaging for the numerous stuff we have at our house. in our own little way we are minimizing our household waste. i watched a program on national geographic channel that talked about packaging. there is a new kind of polymer which can replace the kind of plastic we now use. it is derived from corn and it is called poly-lactate. it can be easily degraded by bacteria. maybe it can be used for grocery bags.

Question : What are grocery store workers checking for when they look at coupons?
When you give the cashier a few coupons at the supermarket, they have to look at each one carefully before scanning it. What exactly are they checking for? Shouldn't it be automatic where they just scan it and see if it goes through? Are they seeing if it's expired? Why does it take so long?Someone who has worked at a grocery store please answer. Thanks.
Answer:
They are looking at the expiration date, the value of the coupon, and the bar code. Most stores don't take expired coupons. There are many fake coupons being circulated right now. The cashier is doing their job.

Question : How do I grocery shop after the snow melts?
For the past month, I have wanted to go grocery shopping. The weather is the greatest reason that I can't go. So, how do I grocery shop when I have gone so long without my chocolate, popcorn, and snacks? I am getting tired of nutritious foods. Do I wear blind folds and nose plugs when shopping?
Answer:
go shopping after eating a huge meal so that you'll be soooo full and bloated that you wont want to by any junk foods while shopping this coming week. good luck

Question : What grocery stores will allow student film shoots within the store?
I have a college film shoot this weekend, and there is a scene inside of a grocery store. What grocery stores will allow student film makers to shoot a short film in their store. The shoot is located in Scottsdale/Phoenix Arizona.
Answer:
look for a store that's more local/family owned.and ask the manager if you can make a movie, just as long as your not gonna make a big mess he will most likely say yes.

Question : What are the cheapest grocery stores in southern California?
My parents are spending a lot of money lately, because of high gas prices and grocery prices. Also, I just got my braces so , that doesn't help.Help me! I don't want to be on a tight budget thanks to the worse president America has ever had. Please don't answer vons, ralphs, or albertsons! I am trying to help my mom out in the grocery shopping!
Answer:
I used to live in So California, and the cheapest grocery store I found was Stater Bros. They also had Lucky's but I do not know if they still exist. Try Stater Bros.

Question : What are the duties of a grocery store Shift Manager ?
I am looking to apply for a posted job at a local grocery store. I have management experience in the retail field. I am wondering what "specialized" skills are required for a the Shift Management position in a grocery store. Can anyone clue me in?
Answer:
Store orders and out of stocks may be part of your duties. My finance is a grocery store manager and the grocery industry really is quite different than regular retail - expecially when it comes to inventory since you are often dealing with parishable items and a lot of vendors. You will probably be required to check in vendors and possibly order store displays from them. Examples would be Frito Lay, Coke, Pepsi, Tombstone...they all have reps that come to the store to set up sale displays and sometimes even fill shelf space. Grocery stores sell shelf space to companies like Kraft or Pillsbury.

Question : Compared to regular grocery stores, what are the prices like at places like Whole foods market?
I want to start feeding my family better food but with the gas prices lately I am unsure about exactly how much more I can spend weekly on groceries. A new Whole Foods Market just opened in our neighborhood but I have never been. Wondering how the prices stack up against regular grocery stores? I know it will be more, you get what you pay for, but am wondering how MUCH more? Anyone know?I don't think we have a Trader Joe's here. What are they?
Answer:
Whole Foods and Trader Joe's tend to cater to the really busy folks who have more $$ than time with a lot of foods that are already prepared or can be put together quickly. You pay a premium for the convenience. I'd say buy your bulk items and dry goods at a lower end store. Beans, flour, butter, oil & cleaning supplies. Try to hit the Farmer's market once a week for fresh fruits & veggies. Use Whole Foods $$$ as a substitute for buying take- out like pizza or ending up at the window of a fast food place. I wouldn't do my main shopping there. All in all I'd say you'd probably be paying 10 to 15 % more at Whole Foods or a Wild Oats..........

Question : What grocery stores or small businesses can a 14 year old apply at?
I've already submitted applications for Publix and Kroger, but I'd much rather work at a smaller grocery store/business. Could somebody give me a quick list of stores/businesses I could apply at, please?Btw, I refuse to work at fast food restaurants, so none of those please.Thank you. :)
Answer:
Since I don't know where you are at I can't recommend any businesses . . .but I would recommend you look in the yellow pages of your local phone book and see what locally owned grocery stores are in your community that are smaller than Publix.Good luck!!

Question : Who would like to do my grocery list?
I have $400 in my budget to do grocery shopping tonight. This needs to last me approximately one month. I am terrible with grocery lists. Anyone willing to help me plan meals and which groceries and commodities to buy that will get me the most from my buck? Thanks!! :) I have children so keep that in mind.
Answer:
We buy things in bulk at BJ's or Sam's Club, Costco, etc. Chicken cutlets, fries, frozen veggies, snacks for school, juice, juice boxes, etc. Then I buy the perishable items (fresh herbs, asparagus, milk, etc.) each week.I end up spending like $250 in bulk items including bread, cheese, butter, etc. and about $30 per week in perishables.I can't really make your grocery list since I don't know your likes/dislikes, but hopefully this was helpful.

Question : Why does grocery store mozzarella always suck as compared to to what you get at a resturaunt?
How come the grocery store mozzarella melts like water and is sometimes even transparent? It has very little gooey-ness or salty, chewy texture as compared to what you get at the resturaunt.I'm not talking about processed slices either, i'm talking about mozzerella you buy in the blocks. Comparing that with most resturuants are almost like two different cheeses. What up with that?
Answer:
They are just a different quality. The block cheeses are your every-day, "the kids want a bagel-pizza" cheeses. They are processed oils that are made to taste like the real thing. If you want a good quality cheese, then you should look by the deli in your grocery store. If it's a decent store, you should be able to find a specialty cheese section which will have good-quality mozzarella, usually in a tub that's filled with oil or water to keep it fresh. A good quality mozzarella will run you at least twice what that cheap block kind will, probably more. But it's worth it.
